The Purpose of this Blog
A place of rest and reflection amidst the uncountable, overstimulating resource that is life on the internet.
As many of my friends, family and connections know, I am always looking for new ways to network and share interesting thought and ideas with others who share my enthusiasm in learning. I do this through my work as a professional English as a second language instructor and a student in clinical social work. Some of you may have even come upon this blog through my other web blog, www.studyingenglishtoday.com, which is geared towards helping both students and instructors of English grow in their knowledge of English.
This current blog serves a similar yet different purpose. I still share ideas, but I want these ideas to be derived from personal refection from work, family, friends, and life in general. This website serves as a safe gateway to share ideas, weather it is from myself or others. One of the ways we all derive energy after a busy day of teaching is through the open, safe sharing of ideas. I want to stress that what is being shared are ideas and are not facts. This blog is not directly supporting any thought, theory, or ideology. Rather it shares useful thoughts that perhaps other viewers of this blog have. Aside from my own incites, I encourage replies, questions, and/or ideas from blog viewers.
I want to stress that any ideas that are not my own and are shared on this website will not be criticized or poked fun of. If a blog viewer shares an idea, the only response they will see from me is either affirmation or a question asking to clarify or expand on the idea. Likewise, I welcome any questions blog viewers have on my own personal reflections. Any ideas that you share in this blog are your own, and if for some reason I share an idea on this blog, I will cite the author and give them credit for the idea. I will also add that since this is a public blog, please do not share overly personal information. Try to discuss ideas that are interesting to you, not ideas that are about you.
Which leads me to conclude with name and purpose of this blog. This blog is called Prodigal Son Odysseys because its purpose is based on the parable of the prodigal son found in the Gospel of Luke 15:11-32. You don't need to be a Christian to find this parable valuable. Note the plural title of this blog (Odysseys not Odyssey). Undoubtedly we are like one of the two sons found in the parable. We all try to the make the best out of a life that is often confusing and uncertain, and in the end of all of our journeys we just want to have a place to call home. This blog is dedicated to anyone who has a story to tell, because regardless of who you are and were you are from, you are on your own Odyssey. Perhaps with some careful reflection and a little empathy, we can share in all of our odysseys together.
